The Disadvantages of Paying by Phone

Many customers find it very convenient to pay for goods and services they bought by simply using their mobile phone. They don’t have to leave the comfort of their home or office just to go to the bank or store to make their payments. They do not even have to worry about losing their money accidentally or bringing their credit cards with them. All that they have to do is just pick up the phone and begin making their payment.

There are however some disadvantages to making payments by phone. Here are some of them.

There Is the Risk of Identity Theft

Systems Software May Cause Problems in Processing of Payments

Making payments with the use of one’s mobile phone is so convenient that a lot of people use it most of the time. This, however , tends to create problems on the merchandiser’s end where payments are received. Since computers process the payments, there might come a point wherein the computer might find it difficult to process the large volume of payments. When this happens, there is a good chance that the computer might bog down and cause a delay in the processing of payments made.

It is not only the computer at the merchant’s office that might suffer because of the large volume of payments. Problems that emanate from your mobile carrier may also cause delay in the receipt of your payment by a merchant. Oftentimes, you get the impression that your payment had already been transmitted. Later on you discover that what you sent had not been transmitted at all.

These are some of the reasons for the delay in the delivery of goods or services that you ordered over the phone. Most merchants deliver the goods you ordered once they receive the payments. So unless payment has been received, there might be no delivery of whatever it was you ordered or paid for over the phone.

Some Companies Might Find It Hard to Adapt to Tight Security Schemes

Utmost security is taken into consideration when a company or business establishment offers customers the use of mobile phones as an option for making payments for goods or services bought. It therefore becomes the responsibility of the company or business establishment to see to it that information being sent to them by the customers should be protected. To accomplish this, companies should look for the best security systems that would ensure that information coming from customers are well protected. But then, the best security systems can be pretty expensive. Choosing a less expensive security system would be a bad idea since the merchant would be putting the customer at a great risk when he/she pays over the phone.

One can see here that there are indeed a lot of risks involved in making payments over the phone. Though it allows the customer to make payments anytime and anywhere, there is the danger that important pieces information might be stolen while being sent or transmitted. Therefore, it is the obligation of the merchant to see to it that information coming from the customer is protected and secured. The customer himself/herself should not overuse mobile payment facilities so as to minimize the risk of personal information
